Week 39: The OFFL Final and the Last Week of the Season

Time to retire after a highly successful career

Is it too late for this week's Manager of the Week, Dave Clayton, to finally take the top spot in the table on the last day of the season?  Probably, but let's not crush his spirit just yet.  His Pyeators took 16 points this week, 13 more than leaders Inter Milandrover leaving themselves just 7 points adrift from the title.

So, far from over then.

Maybe.

Otherwise it looks like this could be the first season that the OFFL Championship has been retained by the current Champions.  Manager Smasher must think it's time to retire.  Or something.

In the meantime, there's another title to be won...

The OFFL Cup Final

So let's have a look at their teams.

Firstly, it's not very interesting to note that Olympilimps FC is registered as Team 15 and is lying in Seventh whereas Real Mcdrid is Team 7 lying in Fifteenth.  Spooky, huh?  Here are the players that count in this fixture.

Week 38: Clayton's Clawback

Dave Clayton Claws Back [6 points]
Dave Clayton's second place Pyeators claw back 6 points from the current OFFL leaders, and OFFL Champions, Inter Milandrover while third placers FC Maalcoma win their manager - Twitter's very own @MallyFactor - yet another Manager of the Week certificate.  That makes it 5 Manager of the Week certificates so far for Malcolm Pratt this season.

It's all 'Go' here.

Meanwhile, having leapfrogged his colleague in the table last week, Chris Walsh suffers the indignity of being immediately leapfrogged back by the previously leapfrogged colleague Russ Bielby. Leapfrogged Livercoolio leapfrog Lashings of Cheese and go up into seventeenth while Mrs Bielby's week, on the other hand, hasn't been so wonderful.  Her Johnny's Heroes fall two places after notching up the worst score of the week.

And as if you were interested, the other Real-Sense manager, Lord Rick Beecroft, bounced his infamous RST-BOY up a place into ninth.

So, no change in the top eight places overall this week, though Steve Tierney's WWMC have just reached the 400 point mark.  We thought that worthy of note, at least.

We were wrong.

Mr Tierney joins Mr Smears and Lady Colquhoun in making transfers this week.  Look at the fools they're drafting in these days, oof.

Week 37: OFFL Cup Semi-Finals, Results

All About The Cup
It's all about the OFFL Cup this week but before we get on to that, let us give Mr Tierney's tiny trumpet a toot for gaining a second Manager of the Week certificate.  His Wymondham Working Men's Club fetched him 32 points.

Impressive.  But was it enough to get him through to the next round of the OFFoh yeah he went out ages ago.

Also of note, up into Fourth is Sarah Bingham whose enormous 28 points saw her leapfrog the Diamonds.  But was it enough to get her through to the next round of the OFFoh yeah she went out ages ago.

Etc.

Semi-Final Results

Minty Colquhoun           Gavin Ward

    Real Mcdrid  22 v 22  Neil's Diamonds
   Craig McHugh           Neil McConaghy

Real Mcdrid go through on Points per Pound difference, 0.41 v 0.40

In spite of the sweeping changes designed to conquer her opponent, Minty Colquhoun fell 8 points shy of her impressive superior, Gavin Ward, whose own transfers - designed to do the same - lost him a point this week.

Still, the real drama occurred in the other Semi-Final with Real Mcdrid and Neil's Diamonds battling out an exciting score draw.  The end result fell to a PpP shoutout which was won by Craig McHugh's Real men 0.407 to 0.400.  Foof.

And so, we have our final...

Olympilimps FC  v  Real Mcdrid
Gavin Ward         Craig McHugh

...two former colleagues, desperate for a bit of Match of the Day 2013 Annual action.

So to speak.

Week 36: OFFL Semi-Finals

Gavin Ward and Minty Colquhoun:
biting back at a lacklustre season

Manager of the Week this week is Chris Walsh, his Lashings of Cheese, who were cruelly knocked out of the OFFL Cup in an earlier round, scored a high and mighty 28 points.  In spite of the much cherished MotW certificate to balm his wounds it is, ultimately, another trophy-less season for this member of the highly competitive Real-Sense stable.
Real Mcdrid and Neil McConaghy:
not exactly baring their teeth at each other

Meanwhile, biting back at a lacklustre season so far... both Gavin Ward and Minty Colquhoun [Olympilimps FC and Minted, respectively] are rattling their sabres at each other by making team changes ahead of their forthcoming OFFL Cup Semi-Final clash. Intriguingly, however, the other Semi-Finalists, both OFFL Cup winners from the past two years: Craig [2011 Winners] and Neil [2012 Winners], have demonstrated a toothless approach to their own fixture.  Not exactly baring their teeth at each other.

And has the weekend's jaw-dropping [and quickly jaw-closing-again-on-soft-flesh] controversy involving a certain uncontrollably violent Uruguayan set off an avalanche of team kick-outs?  Well, not really.  Two, so far.

Week 35: Russ's wife

Russ Bielby: husband of
Sarah-Jane John who wins the
Manager of the Week
certificate this week.

The top three positions compress once more, with scores differing over a very tiny ten point range.

Manager of the Week this week is the Lovely Sarah-Jane John, the doting Mrs Russ Bielby.  Her Johnny's Heroes scored 12 points this week.  She'll be popping her certificate on the mantel piece right next to the one her husband won last week. Bless.  Oops!, she nearly knocked off that framed picture of Russ in his Showgirl days, yes, the one that leads this week's blog post again at http://offl.littlesmasher.com.

Meanwhile, it's time to prepare for the Semi-Finals of the OFFL Cup.  The prize, this year, is the 2013 Match of the Day annual. This will be sent to the winner's home. They will not have a choice.  And neither will there be a return address.

Here we go...
